Northwich Leisure and Memorial Hall

Scope of Works

Wates Construction project value is £12.5M for a new state of the art cultural and leisure centre in the heart of Northwich, which offers a learner pool and 25m pool with slide, dance studios and a gym, as well as a 500 seated multi-purpose theatre & conference venue, community spaces, cafe and bar.

Within the theatre the acoustics are high 60 to 64dB to create the right ambience and avoid noise seepage to outside, this is achieved by installing 4 layers of 15mm Soundbloc board on I stud with 4 layers of insulation and a vapour barrier, the acoustic mass ceiling is on acoustic hangers with 2 layers of 15mm Soundbloc board, insulation and vapour barrier.

The Pool area partitions are constructed using Fermacell board and in the high humid, corrosive environment using H₂O Powerpanel board with a Sikaguard finish.

The external wall linings provide 60 minutes fire protection using Siniat Fire V panel with an outer lining of Megadeco.

There are various types of ceiling installations within the building namely Ecophon Meditec in the pool and changing village with stainless steel C4 grid; the theatre/conference venue and lobby/bar has a bold Ecophon black tile called Sombra with black grid; Ecophon Advantage A in general and office areas.

In the gym GRG is installed to encase the columns to provide a circular seamless finish.

Testimonial

"Sound Interiors were appointed by Wates Construction Ltd in 2014 to undertake the internal partitioning and suspended ceiling package on the new Northwich Leisure and Entertainment Centre project.

The partitioning and boarded ceiling package included Fermacell, Sineat, Promat, Sika and BG, with Sound Interiors expertise utilised to resolve a varying array of on-site conditions, within  the swimming pool, changing facilities, gym, office spaces, communal spaces and high acoustic properties to the Main Theatre.

The suspended ceiling package included a highly specified Ecophon stainless steel grid to pool and changing facilities, various acoustic requirements for ceiling systems and high degree of coordination and collaboration to integrate all services successfully.

The Sound Interiors team provided useful value engineering and buildability advice throughout the project, as a subsequent result were also given the GRP circular columns and Ecophon Acoustic panel packages as the project developed. They managed their works extremely well and collaborated well with other subcontractors to aid greatly in making this project a success.

I was impressed with the level of service and commitment from tender stage to handover, and I would have no hesitation in considering Sound Interiors for future works".
